WE FOSTER COLLABORATION

Designs for Dignity —a nonprofit organization specializing in creating healing and transformative environments for nonprofits in the Chicagoland area— invited Common Place Projects to lead the redesign of the office and gallery space of the Awakenings Foundation. Awakenings provides a safe place for survivors of rape and sexual abuse to tell their stories through artistic expression, helping them to find peace and raise public awareness.

With the aim of strengthening the Awakenings community, bringing its members even closer together, and amplifying their voices to the public, we created a welcoming gallery space for the survivors and artists to feel safe to share their experiences and artwork. We designed and constructed a more efficient office space to allow for increased staff and organizational growth. And, we developed flexible spatial designs to accommodate events and workshops put on by the foundation.
